WHAT IS OBESITY?

WHAT IS OBESITY?

Obesity or obesity, commonly known as obesity, is a disease that arises from the accumulation of excess fat in the body and must be treated. Obesity occurs when the amount of energy consumed by food exceeds the amount of energy consumed by metabolism and physical activity.

This disease, which affects vital systems such as cardiovascular system, respiratory system, hormonal system and digestive system in particular, decreases the quality of life of the patient if not treated and must be treated.

CAUSES OF OBESITY

Disruption of the energy balance of our body leads to obesity. If the person tends to store more calories than he burns in his body, that is, if the person's daily calories are less than the calories he consumes, these excess calories are stored as fat in the body.

In the most general form, those who are fed with excess fat foods have a desire to eat continuously without getting the feeling of satiety, they receive and store more energy than necessary.

In addition, various behavioral changes, physiological, psychological, genetic, medical and endocrine causes are also effective in the formation of obesity.

SYMPTOMS OF OBESITY

Body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference are the most common measurements to measure whether an individual has obesity.

BMI is calculated by dividing body weight (kg) by the square of the person's length (m²). This value is independent of age and gender.

Experts classified BMI values as low weight, normal weight, overweight, obese and morbidly obese. Normal and overweight individuals can choose effective diet and exercise methods and weight loss methods.

Obese and morbidly obese patients are those who should be treated urgently with the help of surgical and endoscopic treatment methods after a detailed examination and diagnosis by specialist doctors.

TREATMENT OF OBESITY

There is no drug treatment that gives full results for burning excess calories stored in our bodies or controlling the appetite by means of drugs.

Our brain, which manages all the functions of our body, is a very complex organ, and unfortunately there is no treatment that suppresses the appetite on the stomach without being exposed to complications.

For this reason, even if some drug therapies give fast results, the patient can be harmed when he wants to be treated with much greater concessions from his health.

Obesity surgery has been an advanced field in the world since the 1950s, and the treatments in this field have reached the level of medical technology that can provide successful results, especially in the last 10-15 years.

However, it should be remembered that there are risks in obesity surgery just as there are risks in every surgical operation. Therefore, it is essential to seek the expertise of a senior doctor in this field before deciding on surgery. Obesity operations should not be performed for aesthetic purposes. If the patient has a BMI of more than 35 kg / m2 or a BMI of 30-35 kg / m2 and there is a risk of obesity, this treatment method can be considered. In addition, different metabolic diseases such as hypertension, Type-2 diabetes, high cholesterol, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and obstructive sleep apnea can be solved with this treatment method.

The most common forms of obesity surgery are Laparoscopic Tube Stomach / Stomach Reduction, Laparoscopic Roux en Y Gastric Bypass / Mini Gastric Bypass, Laparoscopic Duedonal Switch and Endoscopic Stomach Balloon.
