Colonoscopy

Colonoscopy can be performed for screening, diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.

Screening colonoscopy is recommended for all individuals over 50 years of age without any disease or complaint. In this case, abnormal tissue growths (from a few mm to a few cm) can be detected. During the procedure, if possible, the treatment will remove all, and if this is not possible, biopsy is performed. As a result of the pathological examination, the presence of the cells that carry the potential for cancer in that tissue is investigated.

After both treatment and risk determination, it is checked at appropriate intervals to prevent colon cancer or to catch a very early chance to reach full treatment. This approach has been shown to reduce the risk of colon cancer and related death. Diagnostic reasons include obvious or occult blood in the stool, iron deficiency, anemia, abdominal pain, prolonged diarrhea, and weight loss.

For therapeutic purposes, bleeding intervention, hemorrhoid treatment (ligation, injection, etc.) can be due to reasons such as stenting, polyp removal.
